2016 in…Books

For the last few years I’ve had a goal set that I would manage to read 24 books over the course of the year – comics and OU books not counting.  This year was the first year that I’ve managed to successfully match this.

The full list is below, however I’ll readily admit that a few of the entries are a little on the throw-away side.  Some of them however I thoroughly recommend.

The first two books of Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach trilogy were really good, Book three is definitely on the must read list of 2017.  Similarly the rest of Cixin Liu’s Three body problem series and the sequel to a Darker shade of magic.

I’m not quite so certain about the follow on novel to Grace of Kings.  I enjoyed the latter part of the novel, but it took me so long to get into it.

In addition to the books read in 2017 I’ve read a lot of comics in the last year.  Some of the highlights over this time were,

  • Valerian and Laureline
  • Garth Ennis’s The Boys
  • Warren Ellis’s Trees
  • Lumberjanes
  • Alejandro Jodorowsky’s The Technopriests
