Filling the Gaps – The Internet is your Friend
When looking to find ways to fill some of the gaps between travel with new and interesting discoveries, you’re sat in front of one of your greatest tools at the moment, looking right at it. Yup the internet is your friend.
I already touched on the use of the internet for researching your travel plans but the internet also provides for another function, the ability to live other people’s adventures. Whether they be simply the notes of someones holiday or the more formal research or exploration projects of magazines like National Geographic, each offers the opportunity to live through somebody else’s eyes.
Sometimes these readings can be a great source of inspiration, a way to seek new ideas and new destinations. The more informed you are when you head out the better your knowledge of the worlds sights and sounds will be, the more understanding you will have. Ultimately this will lead to a deeper experience of through understanding.
Of course the academic perspective detailing the nature of a place is only one side of any story and for the more detailed picture you need to consider something personal. Reading the stories of others allows you the ability to see things from a different perspective and to consider how people have lived.
A lot of these things can also be gathered through books and TV and of course some of the better more lengthy stories are those that have become famous works of literature. The sheer volume of material that is available online though just means that for wherever you are interested in a relevant piece of text is only minutes away.
I started out writing this with the intention of it being an introduction to my links pages (hosted over on Tumblr) but I’m not sure I’ve done a very good job of setting that up so far. Anyway, it all boils down to the very simple idea that any of the stories that fascinate, enthrall or just make me go WTF will go up here.
Enjoy
